“The YA is Yasaka’s most accessible offset, and I think of it as the sensible workhorse of the line. The clam-shaped convex edge gives that familiar smooth Yasaka slice for layering and soft detailing, the offset handle keeps the thumb relaxed across a full day, and the adjustable screw makes dialling tension a quick, no-fuss job. At 5 to 6 inches it covers most everyday cutting comfortably.

The trade against Yasaka’s dearer SL and L-65 is the steel: SUS440C is a dependable, corrosion-resistant Japanese stainless, but it’s a step below the ATS314 cobalt, so the edge won’t hold quite as long and will want honing a touch more often under heavy daily use. Worth knowing too that it’s a pre-order with a couple of weeks’ wait, so plan ahead rather than expecting it same-day. For a stylist who wants honest Yasaka build and feel at the gentlest price in the range — and is happy to maintain the edge a little more diligently — the YA is a smart, well-judged buy.”
