“This is the Night cutter paired with a matching 30-tooth thinner, and as a starting kit it’s a strong proposition because both halves are cut from the same flagship steel — Japanese VG10 at 60-62HRC, not a hard cutter mated to a soft thinner the way budget sets often are. The convex cutting blade comes keen and holds its edge, in your choice of 5.25” to 6.75”, while the 30 V-shaped teeth on the thinner remove a moderate, even ratio that blends and softens cleanly. The 3D offset on both keeps the wrist comfortable across a full day. Be clear on the thinner’s job, though: 30 teeth finish and blend, they don’t strip a thick, coarse head fast, so heavy debulkers will eventually want a coarser texturiser alongside. It’s right-handed only, and hard VG10 wants its tips protected. For a right-handed stylist kitting out in one go, getting cutting and thinning in matched VG10 with the case and accessories for $449 is genuinely good value.”
