“This is exactly what I’d put in an apprentice’s hand, and I mean that as a compliment. The stainless alloy at 56-58HRC is softer than the premium steels, but that’s the point at this stage — it’s forgiving, easy to maintain, and you’re not crying over an expensive blade while you learn tension and palming. What’s genuinely useful is the choice of edge: the 5.5” convex slice for learning clean blunt and slide work, or the 6.0” micro-serrated that grips the hair and stops sections sliding off the blade — a real confidence-builder for a beginner, though seasoned slide-cutters tend to dislike serrations. The offset handle teaches a healthy, low-fatigue grip from day one. It won’t hold an edge like VG-10 and a working pro will outgrow it, but as a first serious Japanese scissor that won’t punish mistakes, it’s honestly priced and well judged.”
