“The Tsurugi is built like a barber’s tool and behaves like one. The angled blade and longer reach — it starts at 6.0” and runs to 7.0” — make scissor-over-comb feel natural, and the convex edge powers through a wet, dense back-and-sides without stalling on the comb. The mirror-polished 440C at 58-60HRC takes a sharp edge and is forgiving to maintain, which matters in a busy chair where the tool earns hard miles and you want quick touch-ups, not a precious finisher.

Where I’d flag honesty: 440C won’t hold its edge through endless coarse, dry detail the way a powdered or cobalt steel will, so a heavy clipper-over-comb day on wiry hair will dull it sooner. And the offset handle plus blade length is set up for barbering reach — if your work is fine, slow precision graduation on a 5” control scissor, this is the wrong tool.
