Professional Opinion
“The headline of the XP is the handle, and it deserves the attention. This is the Super Ergo crane offset — an aggressively dropped thumb ring that all but eliminates the over-extension and outward roll that wrecks so many stylists’ thumbs over the years. If you’ve started feeling the first twinges of strain after long days, this is one of the most genuinely protective handles I’ve put my hand into, and the convex hollow-ground blade still draws a clean slice for layering and dry detailing.
The trade-off is that the crane geometry is a commitment. It’s a markedly different hand position to a standard offset, and some cutters never warm to how exaggerated it feels — try before you buy if you can. The steel is VG10 at 58-60HRC, dependable and keen but not a premium cobalt, so at just over a thousand you’re paying chiefly for that ergonomic engineering rather than headline edge retention. For a stylist who cuts all day and wants to protect the hand for the long haul, the XP is money well spent; for anyone happy with a conventional offset, it’s more handle than you need.”
