This policy explains how Nippon Shears Pty Ltd ACN 641 863 578 acting as trustee for The Adams Scissor Trust ABN 68 501 252 754, trading as JapanShears (we, us), handles personal information collected through japanshears.com.au. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Our Terms of Sale cover privacy in section 20.

What we collect

When you order:

  • your name and email address;
  • the recipient’s name and phone number;
  • the delivery address;
  • the products and delivery option you choose;
  • your order history with us.

We do not ask for a billing address.

When you pay: payment happens in PayPal’s window. PayPal tells us whether the payment succeeded and gives us a payment reference, which we use to match and refund payments. We do not receive or store your card details.

When you contact us:

  • our contact form: your name, company, email and message;
  • our wholesale form: business name, ABN (optional), contact name, email, business type and order details;
  • our sharpening form: your name, email, the shear model and the problem;
  • any email you send us.

The Reviews page sends feedback through the contact form.

When you visit: the pages load fonts and scripts from third-party services (Google Fonts, rsms.me and jsDelivr). Our hosting provider and those services receive your IP address and browser details as part of normal web requests. The site does not load analytics or advertising scripts.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • process, deliver and support your order;
  • send your order confirmation and tax invoice, dispatch notices and refund notices;
  • handle returns, faults and questions;
  • prevent fraud;
  • meet our tax and legal record-keeping obligations.

We send marketing email only if you have agreed to receive it, and every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

We share only what each service needs to do its part:

  • Payment: PayPal.
  • Hosting: our website hosting provider, including the form service that receives contact, wholesale and sharpening form messages.
  • Order records: our order database provider.
  • Email: our email delivery provider, for order emails.
  • Delivery: the carrier that delivers your parcel. It receives the recipient’s name, address and phone number.

We do not sell personal information.

Overseas providers

Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. This includes PayPal and our hosting, database and email providers.

Security and retention

The site and checkout use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We keep order records for as long as needed to support your order and meet tax and other legal obligations, then delete or de-identify them.

Your rights

You can:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • request access to it, or correction of it;
  • ask how we use it;
  • make a privacy complaint.

You can browse the site without telling us who you are. To place an order, we need the details above.
