The edge does the work. Keep it free of hair and moisture, and store the pair so the blades cannot knock against other tools.

Clean after cutting

Wipe away hair and residue with a soft cloth. Follow the maker’s cleaning and disinfecting advice, then dry the full shear, including around the pivot.

Watch the movement

Open and close the blades gently. If they feel loose, stiff or rough, check the maker’s tension guidance. Use scissor oil only as recommended for the model.

Protect the geometry

A convex or specialised edge needs a sharpener who understands that grind. Avoid home sharpening or forcing through a snag; that can change how the blades meet.

Store for the next shift

Close the pair and place it in a protected case or slot. Keep cutting shears and tooth blades from touching each other in transit.
