“The SA is Yasaka’s traditionalist, and it’s a blade I’d happily recommend to anyone schooled in classic technique. The straight, conventional handle is built for the hairdresser who palms the blade and works palm-to-palm — if that’s how your hands learned to cut, this will feel like an extension of them in a way an offset can’t. The clam-shaped convex edge gives a clean, controlled slice through blunt baselines and precise graduation, and at 5.5” or 6.0” it’s a sensible everyday length.

A note on the steel: SUS440C is classic Japanese 440C, a half-step below the cobalt ATS314 in Yasaka’s dearer cutting line, so it’s a touch softer and will ask for the stone a little sooner. For most stylists that’s a non-issue and it sharpens beautifully. The honest caveats are the conventional handle — harder on the thumb over a long day than an offset — and that it’s pre-order, so plan two to three weeks ahead. For a classically-trained cutter who wants real Yasaka quality, it’s worth the wait.”
