Read these fields for the option you selected. Our listing walkthrough shows what can change and how to check each tool in a set.
In-line rings, four cutting lengths
The Yasaka Traditional keeps the thumb and finger rings in line. Its straight handle is the main reason to compare it with the Yasaka SL: both are listed with ATS314 cobalt alloy and a clam-shaped convex edge, but the SL lowers the thumb ring.
If you already like a traditional grip, start here. Changing handle and size at the same time makes it harder to judge what you prefer. Compare the Traditional and SL at 5.5 or 6.0 inches to keep the nominal size the same.
Choose the reach you will use
The 4.5- and 5.0-inch options give you a shorter tool to place around outlines and close sections. Choose 5.5 or 6.0 inches when you want more reach through a section. A longer shear also puts its tip further from your hand; length is a choice to practise with, not a performance ranking.
These sizes describe the whole shear, not the cutting blade alone. Compare them with a familiar pair using our scissor size guide.
The polished blades need to be cleared of hair and dried after use. For the wider construction comparison, read the Japanese shear buyer’s guide.
Care for the clam-shaped edge
Keep the Traditional’s clam-shaped convex edge clear of other tools in storage. Its in-line rings identify the handle layout; the edge geometry is the detail a technician needs when discussing sharpening. Record the exact 4.5-, 5.0-, 5.5- or 6.0-inch option rather than just “Yasaka scissors”.
Follow the maker’s instructions for the pivot. Our working care routine explains the blade and pivot checks, while service preparation helps you describe a changed cut before arranging work.
