Japanese hair shears for considered cutting choices

ZA-18 Shears in a Colour-Focused Salon

How to choose and care for a ZA-18 shear when colour services and product residue are part of the daily workflow.

Colour work puts product near your tools. The care routine matters whichever steel you use, including ZA-18.

Choose for the cutting job

Do you cut wet baselines after colour, refine dry ends or add texture? Compare blade length, edge and handle for that job. A steel designation alone does not tell you how a shear will behave through colour-treated hair.

Keep residue off the edge

Wipe and dry the blades after use, especially when product reaches them. Follow the maker’s cleaning advice for the tool’s finish, oil the pivot as directed and store the shear protected. If hair starts folding or the close feels uneven, inspect tension and the edge before carrying on.

For a ZA-18 model, ask the seller for its specific construction, finish and care advice. The ZA-18 explainer gives background on the grade, while our maintenance guide covers a simple working routine.
