“Let’s deal with the obvious first: at this price you are paying for the Damascus layering, and you should go in knowing that. Those eight micro-layers of folded steel are genuine monozukuri craftsmanship and the wave pattern is beautiful, but the figuring is in the body — the working edge is a VG-10 core at 58-60 HRC, the same grade of steel that sits in Kasho’s blades costing a third as much. So the performance gap over a plain VG-10 offset is real but modest, not three-times-better.

Where it does earn its keep day to day is the build: the asymmetric sword grind — hollow-ground sword upper, convex lower — gives a beautifully clean slice, and the ball-bearing fulcrum runs smoother and stays put better than a plain flat screw. I’d recommend it to the established stylist who wants a heirloom-grade piece they’ll keep for a career and who values the artistry as much as the cut. If you’re buying purely on cutting performance per dollar, a standard VG-10 Kasho is the smarter spend.”
