A slimmer Yasaka offset handle
The SL pairs ATS314 cobalt stainless steel with a clam-shaped convex edge and an offset handle. Yasaka describes the handle as slimmer than its normal offset design. The thumb ring sits below the finger ring, so the grip differs from the in-line Traditional cutter.
Choose the SL when you want that lower-thumb layout in a 5.5- or 6.0-inch cutter. The shorter option brings the tip closer to your hand; the longer one gives more reach across a section. Both sizes here are right-handed.
Compare it at the same size
For a useful comparison, put the 5.5-inch SL beside the 5.5-inch Joewell FX, or compare their 6.0-inch versions. The SL has Yasaka’s clam-shaped convex edge and polished finish; the FX uses Joewell’s standard blade, a 3D offset handle and satin finish. Decide which construction fits your work before choosing by steel name.
Our Yasaka versus Joewell comparison takes that matched-size choice further. Yasaka also publishes separate specifications for the SL-5.5 and SL-6.0.
Protect the SL’s blade between appointments
The SL’s slim offset handle changes the grip; its clam-shaped convex edge still needs protected storage and a technician familiar with that geometry when edge work is required. Keep the blade clear of comb teeth and other tools, and follow Yasaka’s instructions for the pivot rather than borrowing a setting from a different shear.
Use the working care routine for regular checks. If the closing action or cut changes, record what you observe against the exact 5.5- or 6.0-inch model.
