Add the texture tool when you need its job

The Ergo Apprentice thinner is a single 6.0-inch shear with 30 teeth, an offset handle and convex edge. It is the toothed tool in the Ergo family, with a polished stainless-alloy build. Choose it when you already have a cutter and need a separate tool for blending or adjusting weight.

A thinner changes which hair is cut within a section. It does not replace the cutter that establishes the main line. Tooth count alone cannot tell you how much hair a pass will remove: the tooth shape, section and placement matter too. The thinning and texturising guide explains the comparison.

Match the job, rather than the family name

The Ergo cutters have a useful difference within their own range: the 5.5-inch option has a convex edge, while the 6.0-inch option has a micro-serrated edge. Neither cutter is included with this single thinner.

Keep the tooth line clear
